Of Grand Canyon's gateway towns, Sedona is farthest from Grand Canyon, a little over two hours. However, it is truly among the most gorgeous and 'fun' cities in America. Amenities abound--great restaurants, hotels, and resorts. Epic scenery and hiking. World class shopping. The road from Sedona to Grand Canyon is also beautiful.

A bit of warning: if you will visit the Grand Canyon, it gets snow in winter! Consider lodging in lower-altitude, warmer Sedona. That way, you can check next day's Grand Canyon weather before you drive or start a tour there. If the weather looks bad, you will be glad you are in warmer Sedona with its many activities. You can postpone your Grand Canyon trip until the sun shines!

Although hotels are numerous, Sedona is an extremely popular town, so book your lodging as soon as you can. Be ready for long traffic snarls.
